PhD thesis writing help in Chennai

Chapter help for Chennai PhD scholars, shaped by their university’s rules.

For scholars in Chennai, worked remotely from Nagercoil. Checked .

Yes, Chennai PhD scholars can get help from us to plan, draft and revise thesis chapters, working remotely with our team in Nagercoil.

Everything is done on calls, WhatsApp and screen share. There is no Chennai office, and we don’t visit Guindy, Chepauk or Kattankulathur. Our chapter-wise method is explained on the PhD thesis writing page.

Here we are talking mainly about timing. Every Chennai university has some meetings where the thesis gets checked before it is complete, like seminars, committee reviews, synopsis meetings and approval meetings. Each one expects some part of the thesis already written. We usually ask scholars first which meeting is coming up for them, and from that date we work backwards to pick the chapter.

Anna University: seminars, yearly reviews and the eight-examiner panel

As per the R2025 regulations, an Anna University scholar has to show the thesis in stages. Every semester you have to file online progress report, and if it is not filed you cannot pay the semester fee (15.1). After your registration is confirmed, the Doctoral Committee reviews your progress once in a year, till you reach the synopsis (15.3). There are also two seminars (15.2). The first seminar comes before your provisional registration gets confirmed, and the second one before the synopsis. Both are open to faculty and scholars, held on a weekday where your supervisor works.

Try to have the main chapters in draft by the second seminar. The synopsis is short. Maximum it can be 15 typed pages, publication list included. For references also there is a cap of 15, and they go in alphabetical order. Putting three or four years of research into 15 pages is not easy. It comes out better when the chapters are already written.

When the Doctoral Committee approves the synopsis, it also has to agree that the quality and quantum of research are enough for the final thesis (16.5). After this you submit a panel of eight examiners (16.7). Four of them should be from Indian institutions, such as centrally funded ones, state universities, national labs, or institutions ranked within 50 in the latest NIRF. The remaining four should be from reputed institutions abroad. With the panel goes a list of each examiner’s relevant papers from the last five years. Many scholars leave this list for the last week and then they are hunting for each examiner’s papers at midnight, so begin it a few months before.

University of Madras: RAC presentation once in six months

In the University of Madras regulations, you have to present your work before the RAC once in six months and follow what it recommends (8.2). For chapter writing we find this gap of six months works quite well. Take one chapter, or a good portion of one, to every RAC meeting. Then go through the minutes and do the corrections what the members are suggesting. With four or five such meetings, most of the thesis gets covered.

Clause 13.2 is about language. The thesis has to be in English. For languages and literature it is written in that language, so a Tamil literature thesis will be in Tamil. Then clause 8.3 is on ethics. Whatever ethical rules are in force at that time, you have to follow them while collecting data and doing experiments, and again at the time of publishing. Your methodology chapter should name the approvals you hold.

There is one more rule, and many scholars are not knowing it till the end. The full thesis, approved or not, cannot be published in full without permission from the university, and that permission is asked for only after the degree is awarded. Papers taken from your work during the PhD are allowed, as per your supervisor’s advice. A book of the thesis has to wait.

IIT Madras: the thesis submission approval meeting

At IIT Madras the last stage goes very quickly. Once your synopsis is accepted, you get only one month to give the thesis, as per the January 2021 guidelines. Before that there is a thesis submission approval meeting, set up by a 2022 circular. This meeting can be held only when at least seven days have passed from the date you emailed the thesis to your Doctoral Committee. In that meeting you present for around 20 minutes.

In practice, the thesis your committee reads is the one you submit. Twenty minutes is enough for the research question, method, main results and what is new. A chapter you have not written yet cannot be explained there. That is why we tell IIT Madras scholars to have the full draft ready before the committee gets it. The talk can be prepared after that, and the one month window is kept for final submission only.

M.G.R. Medical University and SRMIST

The M.G.R. Medical University regulations fix the order of the chapters (32.4). It starts with Introduction and then Aims and Objectives. Review of literature and Scope and plan of work come next. After that is Materials and methods (or Patients and methods), followed by Results and analysis, Discussion, and Summary and conclusion. Recommendations, the Appendix and a Bibliography in Vancouver style come at the end. The text should not go beyond 250 foolscap pages, and annexures, charts and attached papers are not numbered along with the text (32.6). From the first day itself we make your chapter files in this same order.

For SRMIST, the 2023 regulations say you present to the Doctoral Committee once every six months. Before the synopsis you also give an open pre-Ph.D. presentation in your department. In each six-monthly review, try to show the committee some draft chapters of the thesis along with your slides.

How it works from Chennai

Send us a message with your university name, the date of registration and the meeting that is coming next for you. It may be a seminar, an RAC review, a Doctoral Committee meeting or a synopsis date. We plan backwards starting from that meeting.

After one call you get a plan in writing. It names the chapters we will take up, their order, and when each will come back to you. You write a chapter and send it to us. We return it with tracked changes and comments, and then we go through it together on a video call. For Anna University scholars the chapters are done inside the CFR template. For M.G.R. scholars we set up Vancouver referencing from the first chapter onwards.

Whatever help you take from us, the thesis stays in your name and it is your work. You decide what goes into it, and you are the one who defends it in front of your committee and the examiners. What we do is help the writing reflect the research you have actually done.

Questions from Chennai scholars

Can you help me prepare for my Anna University synopsis meeting?

Yes, we can. For the synopsis meeting the committee expects the completed first draft of the thesis. We first work with you on the full draft, and the 15-page synopsis is done after that. If you want, we will also check your examiner panel list against clause 16.7.

I’m at the University of Madras in Tamil literature. Can you help with a Tamil thesis?

We do the chapter work in English only. For a Tamil thesis, our help is limited to structure, references and format. For language editing of the Tamil chapters, please take help from someone who works in Tamil.

How much of my thesis should be ready for an IIT Madras approval meeting?

Practically the full thesis. Your Doctoral Committee must have had it for at least seven days before the meeting is held, and you submit within a month of synopsis acceptance.

Can you write my Anna University thesis chapters for me?

No, that part we won’t take up, Anna University or any other place. You do the writing of each chapter. After that we sit with you on the structure, go through revisions and help to finish it. The thesis must be your own work, because in the viva you will have to answer for every part of it.

I’m at the M.G.R. Medical University. Can I change my title after the synopsis?

Better to plan as if you cannot change it. Whatever title you put in the synopsis, the regulations take that as the final one. Fix the exact wording with your guide before you submit the 20–40 page synopsis, which goes in three months ahead of the thesis.
